Twitter Outage: Thousands of Users Struggle with Social Media Access, Elon Musk Addresses Limitations

Thousands of Twitter Users Reported Inability to Access Social Media App on Saturday, Trending Hashtags Include ‘TwitterDown’ and ‘RateLimitExceeded’.

According to Downdetector, the outage began around 8 AM EST on Saturday and continued throughout the afternoon, with over 7,000 outage reports regarding the website by 1 PM.

Some users raised issues such as the inability to retrieve tweets or encountering error messages saying, ‘Sorry, your rate limit exceeded. Please wait a moment and try again.’

Around 1 PM, Elon Musk, who took over the San Francisco-based platform in 2022, tweeted addressing the limitations on reading posts, stating that the following restrictions were temporarily implemented to address data scraping and system overload: a limit of reading 6,000 posts per day from verified accounts, a limit of reading 600 posts per day from unverified accounts, and a limit of reading 600 posts per day from new unverified accounts, with 300 per day from others.

Other users directly tweeted Musk, saying, ‘Hey Elon, my Twitter isn’t working’ and ‘Is there a limit to reading tweets?’

Twitter users faced significant service disruptions in March, one of the biggest outages since Musk took charge. Over 8,000 users reported the outage.”
